Ranger-Scientist | Conservation Biologist | Orchid Taxonomist

Ranger-scientist and field biologist working at the intersection of orchid taxonomy, biodiversity conservation, and natural resource management across the Bird's Head Peninsula — one of the most botanically rich and least explored regions of the Indo-Pacific.

Forest Ecosystem Specialist with the Southwest Papua Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA Papua Barat Daya). Currently pursuing a Master of Science (Professional) in Tropical Biology and Conservation at James Cook University, Australia.

Research & Projects

Ongoing and recent work in orchid taxonomy, field inventory, conservation assessment, and digital botany.

MSc Thesis

Bird's Head Orchid Flora

A comprehensive digital flora documenting orchid diversity across the Bird's Head Peninsula, West Papua. Combines field inventory, specimen databasing, and an interactive species identification key built with Lucid Builder. Covers 660+ species across 96+ genera from over 3,300 georeferenced specimens.

Ecological Modelling

Species Distribution Modelling with MaxEnt

Habitat suitability modelling for West Papuan orchids using MaxEnt. Assesses how land cover change and projected climate shifts affect epiphytic and terrestrial orchid distributions across elevational gradients — contributing to a co-authored study published in Ecological Informatics (2024).

Taxonomy & Database

Indonesian Orchid Checklist

Contributing to a national-scale botanical database for Indonesian orchid flora. Includes taxonomy reconciliation, geographic range documentation, nomenclatural updates, and integration of new species records from recent field collections.

IUCN Red List

Orchid Conservation Assessments

Conducting IUCN Red List threat assessments for orchid species endemic to the Bird's Head Peninsula as a member of the IUCN Orchid Specialist Group, Species Survival Commission. Applies IUCN criteria A–E to taxa with limited distributional data, range restriction, and active collection pressure.
