Research & Projects

Ongoing and recent work in orchid taxonomy, field inventory, conservation assessment, and digital botany.

MSc Thesis

Bird's Head Orchid Flora

A comprehensive digital flora documenting orchid diversity across the Bird's Head Peninsula, West Papua. Combines field inventory, specimen databasing, and an interactive species identification key built with Lucid Builder. Covers 381 taxa across 82 genera from over 1,000 georeferenced records.

Ecological Modelling

Species Distribution Modelling with MaxEnt

Habitat suitability modelling for West Papuan orchids using MaxEnt. Assesses how land cover change and projected climate shifts affect epiphytic and terrestrial orchid distributions across elevational gradients — contributing to a co-authored study published in Ecological Informatics (2024).

Taxonomy & Database

Indonesian Orchid Checklist

Contributing to a national-scale botanical database for Indonesian orchid flora, with a focus on Papuan taxa. Includes taxonomy reconciliation, geographic range documentation, nomenclatural updates, and integration of new species records from recent field collections.

IUCN Red List

Orchid Conservation Assessments

Conducting IUCN Red List threat assessments for orchid species endemic to the Bird's Head Peninsula as a member of the IUCN Orchid Specialist Group, Species Survival Commission. Applies IUCN criteria A–E to taxa with limited distributional data, range restriction, and active collection pressure.
